The anticipation is finally over. Performance Motors Limited (PML) will be bringing the highly-acclaimed BMW 1 Series to Singapore on 10 May 2008. Four models of BMW’s latest range will be made available, with each delivering a unique sense of intensity and sheer driving pleasure.
The BMW 1 Series offers motoring intensity at its purest while the different models fit right across a spectrum of additional individualities and lifestyles. Designed to draw the young-at-heart with a penchant for good design, versatility and the unconventional means of self-expression, the BMW 1 Series is the unique premium offer in the compact class. It is the only car in its segment with rear-wheel drive and 50:50 weight distribution, while combining all the functions typical of a car in this class with the driving dynamics typical of a BMW.
The four models which will be brought to Singapore are the BMW 130i three-door hatchback, the BMW 118i five-door hatchback, the BMW 125i Coupé and the BMW 120i Cabriolet, completing the whole BMW 1 Series family range.
The BMW 130i in Singapore comes standard with an ex-factory M-sports package featuring amongst others the M sports suspenion, thus further enhancing its sporty ambitions. Its benchmark setting 3.0-litre straight-six power unit features a composite of magnesium and aluminium crank-case, VALVETRONIC and double-VANOS, delivering a maximum of 265 bhp at 6,650 rpm, 315 Nm of torque at 2,750 rpm and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, reaching the top speed of 250 km/h (electronically governed). As the only premium compact rear-wheel driven car with a straight-six engine, it combines excellent handling with the silky smoothness of its engine to deliver a truly outstanding performance for the sporty driver.The new BMW 125i Coupé will strike a chord with its dynamic design, powerful contours and M aerodynamics kit that will be standard equipment here in Singapore. Spiritual successor to the legendary BMW 2002, it distills the essence of BMW handling, style and power. Its straight-six power unit, produces a maximum output of 218 bhp at 6,100 rpm and 270 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds and reaching a top speed of 243 km/h. This no-compromises coupe will thrill not just the enthusiastic BMW driver but also onlookers who will appreciate its typical BMW coupe lines.
Offering the free spirited the option of open-top motoring, the BMW 120i Cabriolet allows one to enjoy the evenings’ balmy breeze at the touch of a button. Its soft-top roof closes in a mere 22 seconds and can be operated up to 40km/h. Under the hot tropical sun, the standard Sun Reflective Technology used in its upholstery can reduce the leather’s surface temperature by up to 20oC. Furthermore the special cabriolet automatic air conditioning features a mode for use with the roof down. As soon as the driver selects this particular operating mode, ventilation control depends less on the current temperature within the interior, and is geared more to the outside temperature and the intensity of sunshine. Powered by the proven four-cylinder unit with a maximum output of 156 bhp at 6,400 rpm, 200 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm and top speed of 212 km/h, it hits the 0 to 100 km/h mark in 10.0 seconds.
The BMW 118i rounds off the different facets of the BMW 1 Series, providing excellent driving dynamics and driving safety with the versatility of a 5-door hatchback. Its 5 star Euro NCAP crash test results are testament to its outstanding passive safety features. At the same time, it is packed with a host of BMW active safety features like Runflat Indicator, Brake Force Display and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) with brake assist to name a few. Its 4-cylinder engine pumps out 136 bhp at 5,750 rpm, with peak torque of 180 Nm coming in at 3,250 rpm.
